1950's
Capitalizing on the recent victory over the Axis powers along with fears of a new threat from the Soviet Union, the American Establishment worked to foster a strong national identity in the general public. A wide array of military actions, both open and covert, were initiated against Leftist governments in Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. The corporate boards whose interests were furthered by this violence began to coordinate more closely behind the closed doors of the newly formed Bilderberg Group. The 1950's were also they heyday for unregulated human experimentation, during which thousands of innocent civilians were unwittingly used in chemical and biological tests including the notorious mind control project MKULTRA. And any who opposed this agenda would soon find themselves under the scrutiny of the newly formed NSA.

Among those with whom they discuss these ideas is Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, along with other writers who work on the show. Numerous episodes of the show will focus on interactions with discarnate, god-like alien entities, most notably in the later spin-off series Deep Space Nine.
